Summer Learning Journey - Week 1 Day 3 Activity 1

For this activity I used my imagination I imaged that I was in the 1800's and that I had nine brothers and sisters. I will now tell you how I would I feel about having a lot of siblings. 

I think having alot of siblings would really be helpful because when I need help I could turn to nine others to help me. I would be m dream to have a lot of siblings especially when my parents past I could live with on of my siblings.

This activity was a bit hard because I was trying to find out what is my favorite meal. I chose Raw Fish because my whole family loves it and I do as well. It is also a Tongan original dish.

This activity was different because I first learnt about how the women and men in the past few years. After learning about this interesting topic I drew what my future job is going to be in the future. My future job is to travel by being a flight attendant I want to be a flight attendant because I want to be able to seek and travel  to other amazing country's but I also want to learn how to speak other languages so I can communicate with different people around the world.

This activity was fun because I learnt about the traditional house of the Maori culture called "Whare puni". I compared this house to my house.


Same things-It is really not big and I have a lot of people staying inside.
Difference-We don’t have history at the back of my house. But also we don’t have the sculptures and the brown colour outside.

For this task I first watched this YouTube video about Waka Ama. Then I picked if I wanted to be in a Waka Ama team or not. After this I wrote why I don't or want to be in a Waka Ama team.


I would love to be in a Waka Ama team because it would really help my fitness a lot. But also help me to collaborate with others and make new friends.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 1 / Week 1 / Activity 1

For this activity I have just landed in New Zealand. I went on this link and it will take me to a website I could read all about the story Maui and the giant fish. After reading this I found 3 interesting facts about this story.

1 - Maui would always get angry when the brothers won't let him go fishing with them.

2 - Maui's ancestor Murirangawhenua gave Maui a jawbone.

3 - Beacause the brothers were so greedy this story has been a part of Aotearoa.

Traditional Christmas Food

Christmas is coming up so we are learning about different cultures and foods. But we are also learning by using maths which I think is amazing. For this task we first had to pick one country. Since I did the Philippe's I thought I would do the Philippe's. Then I picked a famous type of food that is traditional to my family and to the Philippe's. I compared them both at the end.

The Next Foundation - Summer Learning Journey

Today we had a lot of important visitors to our assemble  to launch the summer learning journey with the Next Foundation. As we had our assembly we were filmed. When we had our assembly Rachel from the summer learning journey was talking to us. She was really proud of our school and how almost everyone of us joined the learning journey program. The Next Foundation is supporting the summer learning journey to keep this program going. Then Bill Komode from The Next Foundation also came to talk to us about the learning Journey Program. But he was also talking about how he is amazed about how our school has a talent for participating in the summer learning journey. In the middle of the assemble he showed us the film that they made about our school. The film was about the summer learning journey. It was really outstanding how the film turned out to be. It was fun having the camera crew here in our class. Some of us were featured in the film which was exciting. After the assemble we got to have free launch from Eat My launch it was so delicious. 

Collaborative-Philippine Challenge

The Collaborative challenge was fun. In my group was Javeylor, Fatongia and Carl. Our first activity was to pick a country to make a DLO about how they celebrate Christmas. We chose the Philippines because Carl was also Philippine and we didn't really know about how the Filipinos celebrate Christmas. Then we made a screencastify to tell whats happening and to show and tell our thinking. After making this presentation we learnt a lot. Our next task was to create a Kahoot about different country's. We used our smart searching skills to get this task done and we also worked as a team well. This made it easier to finish off our task. This was for Inquiry beacuse we were also learning about Christmas.

Speeches-Head Girl 2018

Hello my name is Savelina I am striving to be head girl for 2018. To become head girl I need your vote.  I chose to be head girl because I try my best. But that’s not all, I encourage,motivate and respect younger students and seniors as well. To help me I’m always confident to talk to anyone. Every day I always put great effort to become a great example to our little students. Plus I’m trying to inspire young students to become a great leader in the future. 2018 is going to be a new and improved year with great leaders and I know that for a fact. If I become head girl I guarantee that you will never regret it. Yes I understand that things will never be one hundred percent but I promise you I will do my best. When I thought about being a leader I doubted myself . Yet as the time went past I learnt that no one is perfect even me and here I am. I will always try, try and try to learn more and more. The qualities I have for a head girl is a lot but one quality I have is that I’m really responsible. I will always make Panmure Bridge School a wonderful school by showing the pleasure of being here. I know that there are others that are going for head girl but I know that I will try harder to make this school a better, happier place. Whether or not I’ll become head girl at the end of the day I know I have tried my best. This is why you should vote me, Savelina, as head girl for 2018. Thank you.

I have put myself forward to be head girl for 2018. It was challenging but I wanted to achieve one of my biggest goals and being a head girl was one of them. I wrote my own speech and I nominated myself so I put all of my thinking into my speech. I hope that I will get this role because I know I would try to make this school a better place .

Google Scratch

On google there is a scratch game. This really amazing how google now has a game of scratch for there theme. It helped me to remember the games that I made on scratch.

Team Work in Panmure Bridge School

Us Year 7 is now writing our speech to pick our student leaders. To help us to learn about being a leader next year we created a poster that reminds us for next year what team work looks like.

Clean Up Crew - Maths

For Maths it was different because my class learning about Geometry. It was fun because we also got to learn how to draw a bulldog using the scales but also using numbers to help. One of our rules was to always count across then up the latter.  

Reflection Tech

Tech this year was really amazing it is really fun beacause we get to learn about different things other then subjects. I was really working as a team to get threw tech. The teachers at tech were really helpful and kind. I can't wait for next year. 

Fire Fighter - DLO

Fire safety is important to our community. Our topic for inquiry is the community so to help us we went to the fire station in Panmure. This helped us to understand what the fire station does to help our community.

Athletics

Today was athletics day it was really amazing. We had 7 activity's and my favorite activity was the sponge race because it was just like having a water fight. But the other activity's were fun as well. When we came back from tech there were some Tamaki college to help us run this day. They were helpful and caring. 

Summer Learning Journey

For assemble our special guest was Hazel and Rachel from the Learning Journey program. They came to talk about the Summer Learning Journey. I can't wait for the Summer Learning Journey to start because the theme is Time Travel I don't know a lot about the past so I am excited to learn about the past. 

Tech At Tamaki College

On the 1st of December it was our last rotation for tech. To make the last day fun my class was split into three groups. The first group was social studies then PE the last was robotics. I was in PE our teacher was Mr Moyes. We played a lot of amazing games we played bench ball, Samoan softball and Infinite tag. For all of these games we spited up into two groups so we could work well as a team. Both teams worked really well and collaborated well together. It was really fun because everyone participated.

Fire Station-Summary

When we came back from the fire station to learn more about our inquiry topic which is about the community. We went into groups and to help us recap on what we learnt and how the firefighters help our community we filled in this summary plan. It really helped our group to work together and learn more and more about what we learnt.

Fire Station

For Inquiry our topic is about our community. We also learn about the safety of our community. So we walked down to the fire station in Panmure. The fire fighters were telling us about there job and what they do to help our community. This really helped my class learn more about how fire fighters use their skills to help us. The showed us around the fire truck and the tools which were really cool. The best part was when they showed us how they cut throw a car to save someone.

Maths Strategy

   

For maths our focus is to know which strategy to use for a question. To do this we got into either groups of three or two. In my group was Brooklyn, Javeylor and I. Our task was to create a DLO about this question that Mrs Anderson put on a presentation. After we had finished this DLO we then created this screencastify. We are explaining what strategy we used to solve this question.

Police

For this weeks topic it is really important because it is all about our community. This topic helps me to help our community and understand more about my surroundings. To help my school a helicopter came and landed on our field which was amazing and was telling my school everything they do to help our community. The Police dogs also came they did some tricks and the police also told us everything they do to help us.

Learning To Motivate.

Today all the year 7 boys and girls were learning about the word motivate. This learning was really useful because we are nearly picking who is going to be our head leaders for 2018. This was fun because Mrs Anderson split us year 7 into groups then we got to make a role play about motivating others. In my group I had John Joshua W and Lyric. We got to show each other our role plays. When I was watching other role plays I realized that if I am a year 7 I should be motivating others to do their best. 

Oral Hygiene

 This presentation is for inquiry because our topic is all about the community. To help the community Nazella and I are showing our community why it is important to brush your teeth. I hope this would really help you and the community to take care of your teeth.

Food Tech

Today the year 7's were in food tech we made chicken goujons. By making this we either had to get into a group of two or three. In my group was Shakaia and Sky. We were working in a team and collaborating with each other to get this done. This was challenging because we were remembering what ingredients we needed.

Film Festival 2017

This years Manaikalani Film Festival was special because it was the 10th year anniversary since this program has started. The films were so interesting because the schools did'nt just show their learning they should it in different ways. The films were also really fun to watch. The one I especially liked was the Tamaki Primary because they were talking about people who don't have houses. It really should me to care for others. I loved our film as well it was different to the other schools film. When we came back to school my class commented on other schools films it was really exciting to watch schools films that I haven't watched.

Fireworks Safety

In LS2 we invited LS1 to learn about the safety in fireworks. We learnt the story of Guy Fawkes as well and how fireworks became. Then we got into a group of four two students from LS1 and the other from LS2. We were asking each other questions about how the people felt in the story. We split up in 

Learn, Create and Share - Scorpion

I did this to show my thinking I first learnt about adaption and animals. Then I created my sketch note after that I created my presentation. Now I am sharing my learning with you. This was fun because I got to learn more about scorpions and learn a new word called adaptation. I also learnt the process of learn, create and share. 

Explanation - How Children Learn at School

How children learn at school

What did you learn when you were a child? Did you learn by talking? Many kids learn by asking friends questions to learn more. A lot of people when they were a child liked to tell their ideas to express themselves by doing what they love.

Kids also follow people they look up to. Were you one of them? Children are good observers they like what other people  like to do. They learn more in partners because they are learning what they might not know. There are people in our community who help kids learn as well. They really look up to their community.

Kids love to play and have fun with friends. They love to explore by trying new things. When kids explore they love to climb and swing and adventure to see how high they can get. Exploring can really help a child to learn more.

Kids disagree to agree to have an opinion. People always have decisions on what to pick for what they might want to do in the future. Children can always be picky with what they want. They will always be with someone and do what they do but they just want someone to be their role model.

We learnt a lot this makes us to really be smart for college and university. Kids will always look up to someone or follow who they would want to be. Going to school is a really big deal and having an educational life as well.

Today I went into to partners with Zane to plan and write an explanation. We have done steps 1 to 10 to finish this explanation we worked together to finish this. It took time but we manage to get this done. Other groups checked our work which made our explanation better.

Fraction Strategy - Screencastify

           

    

Today I have made a screencastify to show my thinking for one of my DLO's for maths this was really fun to do. To do this I first planed with this document. I add my DLO then typed my script and also added what I was going to do with my cursor to make my screencastify easy to understand. After doing this I downloaded the screencastify app. I opened my DLO by clicking on the link that I had on my planning sheet. I opened all of the tabs that I needed to use I clicked on the app then recorded. The video will automatically save onto a folder in your drive called Screencastify. I changed my video so anyone with the link can access. I opened a window and embed my video. This is how I created my screencastify. I would want to say a huge thank you to Mrs Grant for showing us how to make a perfect screencastify. 

Transum - Expedite

Today I have chosen to play this times table game to help me to remember my times table. This did help me to learn all different kinds of times table. I also had fun doing this challenge.

Elections Kahoot

Today my class was learning about elections. I created a Kahoot with Zahra and Sky the questions we asked was not only about the elections it was also about Helen Clark. We learnt a lot by asking these questions and more about how to become a Prime Minister.

Production 2017

Last night my school Panmure Bridge had a production because we were celebrating the 60th year since this school has been open which is a very long time. To celebrate each class room had a dance that was from the past to this year. We also had our Pacifica group and Kapa Haka preform.  It was really fun but hard at the same time because we had to run up and down to change customs but we all managed to get on stage at the right time.

Kiwi Can

Today is the last session of Kiwi Can. We played a lot of games my favourite game was playing ten toes down. First we were split into two groups the other group had bibs and we didn't. Then the other group will start with the ball and would touch the ball to the ground then pass the ball which ever team touches the ball on the ground ten times wins.

Helen Clark - Prime Minister

Today I was learning about the past Prime Ministers we picked one Prime Minister from the past and that was Helen Clark. I created this in a group and in my group I had Nazella, Brooklyn and Shakaia they really helped me to complete this task. I learnt a lot about Helen Clark and what it takes to be a Prime Minister.

Food Advertising

In class we were learning about advertising. I have learnt a lot about how the author gets the audience to buy their product. 

Princess Bride-Character Introduction

In class we watched a movie called Princess Bride. We did a lot of activities and my favourite one was doing the character introduction. By doing this activity I got to recorded information about the characters on a document. I also learnt about the characters and how to recognise who is the antagonist and the protagonist in other movies.

Coalition

                      

Today we were finding out all about the coalition and how it works. For this years election NZ First has got a choice of joining Labour or National to increase the amount of seats in Parliament . I learnt all about this years election and about our local MVP which is Denise Lee.

Democracy Flow Chart

In my group we created a democracy flow chart about the elections this Saturday. This shows how these leaders become our Prime Minister.

Two Word Sentence

For writing I had to chose a two word sentence I chose we did. Then I had to make a compound,complex and a simple sentence using the two word sentence. I had to then chose one and I chose the compound sentence and I also illustrated it. 

Political Party's

For this week my class is learning all about the elections and Prime Ministers in New Zealand because this Saturday is elections. This task was a collaborative task so I did this with four of my friends. We named all the leaders for the main party's.

Ebook Day

Today is a special day because it is Ebook day. For Ebook day my class went on to Tamaki overdrive to read a book. Ebook is a day to read a book online which I think is amazing. I do this most of the time to progress my reading skills. I love Ebook day it is just like telling the world to read online books to build your education levels.

Say It Tika

Say it tika is a website that shows all the Maori places in New Zealand that people say differently than it should sound like. This website would help google map say these places correctly. My class got to drop a pin on one of the places I picked Taupo because I used to say this word differently to so I thought that I'll pick Taupo.

Tamaki Overdrive

My class used the Tamaki overdrive  website. I love this website because it really help's my reading. I can chose any subject to read about for example I found this book by clicking the mystery and suspense. I also like this website because I have got a lot of books to read from on my Chromebook. Also I can find what I want to read about and I don't have to take a long time looking for my book I can just search it up.

Tongan Language Week

For Tonagn language week my class had a task. That task was to get into a group or partners and one person has to be a Tongan expert and I was the Tongan expert and my partner was Harlem H. We got to pick one topic to teach you a new skill in Tongan. So we both decided to teach you a recipe from Tonga witch was raw fish.

Kiwi Can: Taking Risks

For Kiwi can our teachers are Miss Latoia and Mr Malu they really help my class to understand different challenges in life. Today our topic was taking risk and our energiser game was called bip bop bounce this game helped me and my class to control our body's. First Mr Malu points at someone and says bip bop bounce and who ever he is pointing to that person has to say bang just before he says bounce. It gets harder because Miss Latoia comes and they both say bip bop bounce but not to the same person. Then we had a game of hand soccer this game is really simple it's just like soccer but we use our hands to hit the ball into our goal. We all had to use my teams support to overcome the challenge. The challenging thing was that we had to pass to all of our team mates before getting the ball in the goal. But it helped me to make sure that I use a lot of team work and we had to make sure that everyone takes part.

For reading I was finishing my key into inference I was up to the activity for text 6 which is the Monarch butterfly life cycle. I used information from the text to finish this activity. It really helped me to make sure that my writing was correct.

In my class we all have a account on ReadTheory because it really helps us to improve on our reading skills and grow our knowledge. But it also helps us to compare text, learn different text types and to upgrade our vocabulary skills.
